Can it crack file open passwords?

No, encrypted files require the password to open. This tool only removes sheet/workbook protection. Encryption is much stronger.

Does it work on .xls files?

No, .xls uses binary format. Save as .xlsx first in Excel, then use this tool. Or use older-specific tools for .xls.

Will formatting be preserved?
