How the Barcode Sequence Generator Works

Our barcode sequence generator creates batches of sequentially numbered barcodes with customizable prefixes, suffixes, and formatting. The tool automates the creation of unique barcode sets for serial numbering, asset tagging, ticketing, and inventory management.

Generation Process

  1. Configure sequence parameters (start, end, increment)
  2. Add optional prefix and/or suffix to each code
  3. Set zero-padding for consistent code length
  4. Select barcode format and display options
  5. Generate all barcodes in the sequence
  6. Download individually or as a complete set

The generator supports sequences from 2 to 10,000 barcodes. Each barcode is generated with consistent formatting and can include custom prefixes (like "SN-" for serial numbers) and suffixes. Zero-padding ensures uniform code length for professional appearance and database sorting.

Common Use Cases

Serial Number Labels

Generate sequential serial number barcodes for product identification, warranty tracking, and authentication.

Event Ticketing

Create numbered ticket barcodes for concerts, conferences, and admission-controlled events.

Asset Tagging

Produce sequential asset tag barcodes for equipment tracking, IT inventory, and facility management.

Raffle Tickets

Generate numbered raffle ticket barcodes for fundraising events, giveaways, and contests.

Inventory Bins

Create sequential location barcodes for warehouse bins, shelves, and storage areas.

Certificate Numbering

What to Know Before Using This Tool

Preset Configurations

Serial Numbers
SN-000001, SN-000002, etc. (Code 128)
Ticket Numbers
TKT1000, TKT1001, etc. (Code 128)
Asset Tags
AST-00001, AST-00002, etc. (Code 39)
Inventory IDs
INV0001, INV0002, etc. (Code 128)

Zero Padding

Zero padding ensures all numbers have the same digit count. For example, with 6-digit padding: 1 becomes 000001, 42 becomes 000042. This provides uniform barcode appearance and proper numerical sorting in databases.

Output Options

  • Download all barcodes as individual PNG files
  • Export sequence data as CSV for database import
  • Print labels directly on adhesive label sheets
  • Copy all codes to clipboard for documentation

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum sequence length?

The tool supports sequences up to 10,000 barcodes. For larger sequences, consider generating in batches. Most applications rarely need more than a few thousand sequential codes at once.

Can I skip numbers in the sequence?

Use the increment setting to skip numbers. For example, increment of 2 generates odd or even numbers only. For complex patterns, generate multiple sequences and combine them.

How do I continue a sequence later?

Note the last number generated and use it as the start number for your next batch (plus the increment value). Keep a record of sequence ranges to avoid duplicates.

What barcode format should I use?

Code 128 is recommended for most applications - it is compact and supports all characters. Code 39 is compatible with older systems. Use the format that matches your scanning equipment.

Can I include check digits?

The generated barcodes include format-appropriate check digits automatically. Code 128 and EAN-13 include mandatory check digits. For custom check digit schemes, post-process the CSV output.

How are the files named?

Individual downloads are named using the full barcode code (e.g., "barcode-SN-000001.png"). This makes files easy to identify and organize. CSV export includes all code variations for reference.
